Even the manufacturing process was retooled at mazda's assembly plant in hiroshima, japan for faster, more flexible production.  the mazda6 uses mazda's skyactive technology, a collection of systems and techniques first employed on the cx-5 crossover that reduce weight and increase efficiency. At the heart of it lies a 2. 5-liter inline-4 that makes 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque (mazda said sayonara to the old v6). A new injection system and race-style exhaust manifold help the new mazda6 achieve more torque and power than the previous engines, while reducing emissions.  the standard transmission on the base model is a 6-speed manual, which now comes standard with a hill-hold feature. It's a hybrid of a traditional torque converter, which kicks in at speeds of less than 5 mph, providing the driver with the familiar creep of automatic transmissions, and a dual-clutch that operates at higher speeds, providing quicker, more seamless shifts. Like most cars in this class, mazda6 is front-wheel drive.  other elements of skyactive include a lighter, more efficient frame, which engineers tweaked using straighter lines and different welds. High-tensile steel comprises 58 percent of the mazda6's body weight, which is a relatively lean 3,183 pounds on the base model with the manual transmission. That's a few pounds lighter than the honda accord, and nearly 300 pounds lighter than the ford fusion. The deep flowing creases over the front fender continue into the front doors, in a cue taken straight from the shinari concept. The a-pillars are pushed farther back on the new mazda6, which not only biases the proportions rearward, but it also aids with visibility while driving. Bright trim is used sparingly and tastefully around windows. Wraparound taillamps mimic the horizontal shapes of the front end, and here, too, bright work is used to highlight but not overwhelm. Twin exhaust pipes that sit beneath the lower plastic bumper cover are subtly sporty. interiorin true mazda style, the cockpit of the mazda6 is centered around the driver. The steering wheel is smaller than before, and buttons and knobs on the center stack are within easy reach of the driver (even though many functions are duplicated on the steering wheel).  materials inside are a mixed bag; the soft-touch dash and instrument panel are of good quality, but the plastic around doors, including window switches, have a generic parts-bin look. Still, there were no glaring fit or finish issues, and we daresay everything inside is on par with other cars in the class.  in front of the driver is a trio of gauges that are simple and easy to read; speedometer, tach and driver information display. 2010 mazda mazda6 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Looks great, drives terrific. introductionthe mazda6 was all-new for 2009, completely redesigned and re-engineered. Its launch was lost in the recession, but it carries into 2010 as one of the most appealing midsize sedans on the market. Mainly, it delivers sparkling performance and is a terrific driving experience among midsize sedans. It's also attractively priced.  the mazda6 is roomy inside. The 3. 7-liter v6 makes 272 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, delivers extraordinary performance and is still epa-rated at a commendable 17/25 mpg, city/highway. The v6 is among the most powerful in its class and is a delight to drive. Prices begin at under $20,000 and can go to over $30,000 for a full loaded v6, but a very nicely equipped mazda6 can be had for around $30,000. They are all sedans; no wagon, no two-door, and no mazdaspeed versions are currently available.  the mazda 6 is available with a full range of features and technology, including navigation with voice activation and all the expected sound system capabilities. But what we like most about the mazda 6 is its driving dynamics.  the mazda6 competes against an impressive group of midsize sedans, but we think people shopping the toyota camry, honda accord, chevrolet malibu, nissan altima, or hyundai sonata should have the mazda6 on their comparison test-drive lists. Particularly, those who enjoy and appreciate a higher level of the driving experience need to consider the mazda6, because it has a sportiness aspect not matched by the competition.  changes for 2010 are minimal. Accessories include auto-dimming mirrors 200), rear spoiler 475), and splash guards 150). The mazda 6s has the 3. 7-liter v6 engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and chrome dual-exhaust outlets. Despite this, it doesn't look like a big car, especially with nothing adjacent for scale. An upper body crease that would normally go to the front wheel stops just shy of that floating fender, and the rear wheel arches have double creases to mirror the front.  the mazda6 five-sided grille has a deep v-shape to it and it's all body-colored. There is no chrome beyond the logo wings, and darker colors show even fewer character lines for the most fluid appearance. Fog lights are set in horizontal openings but the lights themselves are vertically-oriented.  at the rear, taillamps wrap well around the sides, and v6-model exhausts are distinctively shaped stand-offs not actually connected to the pipes themselves. The exception is the console trim that slashes across the passenger's dash which, on some models, appears a cross between silver-veined black granite and ash-black burnt wood with wide rings in it. It's a look we've not run across recently. There is generous room inside, so even six-foot-plus bodies can sit in front and then jump in back without moving the front seat, even on cars with the moonroof. The hood slopes out of sight, common in this aerodynamic era. The roof pillars are not so wide that they obstruct vision; the outside mirrors are fairly low and so is the dashboard, all adding up to a good view out. When shifting an automatic manually the gear selected is shown in a large font above the odometers.  at top center of the dash is a deep red digital display for climate, radio and clock information, easily read by anyone in the car. Below it are center vents, the audio system or navigation if so equipped, and basic three-ring climate controls.
